Harriet Tubman Journey
March 10, 2013 is the 100-year anniversary of the death of abolitionist and national and state hero Harriet Tubman. In recognition of her tremendous accomplishments in Delaware and our nation, a number of celebratory events will occur statewide.
In Delaware, there will be a “Ten for the Tenth” days of activities from March 1 to March 10 to honor Ms. Tubman’s contributions and legacy. One of the primary culminating activities will be the Harriet Tubman Journey – a series of walk/run/ride events occurring on the final day of this momentous occasion. Attached you will find the proposal that outlines those events, their locations and their charitable purpose. For even further information, you may look at our Facebook page (Harriettubmanjourney) and the rest of our website. Individual donations and registrations may be completed on line.
In addition to honoring the legacy of Harriet Tubman, the events described above will benefit several local charities (Delaware Futures, West End Neighborhood House, Delaware Center for Justice,The Kenny Family Foundation, Inner City Cultural League, Inc. and the Harriet Tubman Byway Organization), which will receive the balance of all funds raised less expenses.
